Bio
Sam Johnson was born in India. He emigrated to NYC as a teen with his family. He started playing guitar when he was about ten, but it wasn't until several years later sitting in a small room in Brooklyn, and suffering from culture shock that the guitar would be rediscovered.
Fast forward twenty some years later, Sam Johnson finds himself again in a small room with a guitar. Much has happened during those years, but his music has remained a constant companion, and a chronicle of his life's experiences. He admits he is a is a sporadic and temperamental songwriter.
Having not written a song in years, as life experiences were accumulating, he found the inspiration for this album travelling through central Australia in the summer of 2005.
This album is filled with heart rending songs of great enduring value, every song sounds like an instant classic. The songs are signature Sam Johnson; you'll want to sing along the second time you hear it. The message of this album resonates with anyone who has ever taken a walk through the boulevard of broken dreams or checked into the lonely hearts hotel!! It is fraught with emotions as bare as a naked light bulb! A broad string of desperation threads one song into another. It is aptly titled, and thoroughly endorsed as a classic 'dark album". This album showcases Sam's outstanding songwriting as highly talented musicians, many of whom currently play with signed bands collaborate on this fabulous album.
"Lonesome Serenade" boasts musicianship of Steve Golding, drummer (the Mekons), Tony Maimone, bass/producer (Peru Ubu, Book of Knots), Jim Mastro (Ian Hunter, Megan Reilly), Jon Graboff (Ryan Adams) and other distinguished players.
